Jason Kreis has been one of my favorite post-match interviews for some time now. He’s thoughtful, patient, actually tries to answer questions without using cliches or coachisms. You have to admire what he’s been able to accomplish with Real Salt Lake. Salt Lake City has never had a championship team in professional sports. College basketball and the Utah Jazz have had championship caliber teams, but only Jason Kreis has lifted a banner and a trophy for a team in Utah.
This move has been coming for a long time. Worst kept secret in MLS in 2013 was that Jason Kreis was being recruited by NYCFC. It is surprising that the team held together with that rumor being bandied about. I think it is a credit to the strength in the organization that key pieces can be replaced with new ones and the team still performs.
